Bob Ross Online Course: Learn at Home

Nine step-by-step Bob Ross style video lessons from Certified Ross Instructor Mark Terrell. Paint along at home, from £10 a lesson or £50 for the full set.

In short: this is a Bob Ross style online course of nine video lessons. Each one teaches a complete wet-on-wet oil painting, so by the end you'll have painted skies, mountains, water, snow, waves, reflections and flowers. It's taught by Mark Terrell, a Bob Ross Certified Instructor. It isn't an official Bob Ross Inc. course.

What you'll learn on the course

Each lesson is over an hour long, and you learn by painting along. Across the nine lessons you'll cover paint mixing, brush loading, palette knife work, blending, seascapes, snowy landscapes, reflections and florals. These are the same techniques I teach in my one-day classes in Kent, recorded so that you can learn from home.

The 9 lessons

  • Bubbling Brook: flowing water, lush greenery and woodland.
  • Northern Lights: an aurora borealis scene with vivid greens and purples.
  • Daybreak Snow: a snowy dawn landscape with soft golden light.
  • Evening Seascape: sunset colours on crashing waves.
  • Bright Snow: a crisp winter scene with pristine snow and blue skies.
  • Seascape Wave: powerful waves with foaming crests and clear water.
  • Calm Reflections: a still lake with mirror reflections.
  • Final Grace: a graceful landscape with soft lighting and delicate detail.
  • Bright Tulips: floral painting with colour, depth and dimension.

Why learn from a certified instructor?

Mark Terrell is certified in Bob Ross landscape painting (2006), Bob Ross floral painting (2007) and the Bill Alexander method (2007). That means you're learning the real wet-on-wet technique, step by step, and not a guess at how it's done. Read more about Mark, the history of the method in About Bob Ross, or how Bob Ross himself learned to paint.

Before you start

You'll need oil paints, Liquid White, a few brushes, a palette knife and a canvas. The beginner supplies guide and the page on what paint Bob Ross used explain what to buy. Prefer to learn in person? Book a one-day Bob Ross painting class in Whitstable, with every material provided.
